Depuis son premier voyage effectué en 1972, Harry Gruyaert n’a eu de cesse de revenir au Maroc, à la recherche du choc initial ressenti : un accord splendide entre les formes, les couleurs, les gestes quotidiens des gens et la nature. Du Haut Atlas au désert, des campagnes à Marrakech, Fès, Essaouira ou Erfoud, les images de Harry Gruyaert constituent des théâtres imaginaires où s’exprime l’envoûtement que ce pays exerce sur lui depuis plus de 50 ans. Mais ses photographies sont aussi paradoxalement très physiques.

“Faire une photo, c’est à la fois chercher un contact et le refuser, être en même temps le plus là et le moins là. Sur le terrain, il s’agit d’une vraie “bagarre” avec la réalité, d’une sorte de transe pour enregistrer une image ou peut-être tout manquer.

Morocco est l’expression de cette tension particulière, à mi-chemin entre l’exaltation et le ravissement.
