Lartigue, la vie en couleurs se présente comme une magnifique occasion de découvrir un pan inédit de l’œuvre de Jacques Henri Lartigue, ses clichés en couleurs n’ayant été jusqu’ici que très partiellement montrés et restant, dans leur grande majorité, parfaitement inconnus.
Célébré au XXe siècle comme un génie du noir et blanc, Jacques Henri Lartigue se révèle aussi un artiste de la couleur, et la perception que nous avions de son travail en est bouleversée et enrichie. Pour lui, la vie et la couleur sont indissociables. Les autochromes de sa jeunesse (1912-1927) puis le procédé ektachrome qu’il adopte à partir des années 50 jusqu'à sa mort en 1986 lui permettent de traduire la joie passionnée qui l’habite et restent, selon ses mots, ce qui est « le mieux capable d’exprimer le charme et la poésie ». Dans les photographies de cette dernière et longue période de sa vie, la couleur apparaît comme la partie enchantée d'une œuvre de plus en plus libre.
