Les éditions TBW Books sont heureuses de vous présenter le septième volet de leur série annuelle. Cette année, quatre artistes ont été invités à aborder le concept de corps humain. Mettant en œuvre des approches stylistiques distinctes, chaque livre s'efforce de remettre en question la pratique de l'artiste, laissant place à la découverte non seulement de son œuvre mais aussi du langage de la photographie lui-même.
Carmen Winnant, Body Index
La série Body Index est née il y a dix ans, lorsque C.Winant travaillait en tant que modèle pour des cours de dessin et, comme elle l'explique, s'est vue observée sous tous les angles. Affectée par ce moment où le corps féminin surveillé est transmué en art, Winant a commencé à collecter et à coller des images de femmes prenant la pose - destinées à l'origine à servir de photographies de référence anatomique pour les artistes - afin d'explorer la manière dont le corps féminin est instrumentalisé devant le regard de la caméra.
Juergen Teller, The nipple
The Nipple, une série faite juste avant le début de la pandémie mondiale du Covid, fait allusion à la nature toujours précaire de nos corps mortels. En opposant des images de faiblesse et de désolation à celles de la vitalité corporelle, J.Teller préfigure brillamment l'isolement et la tension qui, au moment de l'impression, étaient encore à venir.
Mona Kuhn, Study
M.Kuhn est retournée dans la chambre noire pour construire sa série Study en utilisant le procédé de la solarisation. Comme la figure dans ses images, M.Kuhn a cherché à trouver son propre équilibre, la solarisation étant une technique instable et délicate découverte par les surréalistes dans les années 1920. Le résultat est cette série de tirages uniques où chacun révèle des couches d'éclats argentés sous forme de magie oxydée.
Paul Kooiker, Business of fashion
Business of Fashion a été créé en 2018 lorsque le photographe Paul Kooiker a été invité par Michéle Lamy à réaliser une performance artistique pour Voices, un événement annuel sur invitation organisé par le Business of Fashion (BOF) qui rassemble certains des tastemakers les plus influents de l'industrie mondiale de la mode, les réunissant avec des innovateurs et des entrepreneurs qui détiennent ensemble une grande influence sur la culture populaire. La réponse de P.Kooiker à la demande de M.Lamy a été de photographier les invités un par un, les égalisant en les capturant à partir du cou dans une pose uniforme. Photographiés sur un fond blanc en niveaux de gris, les sujets, souvent habitués à la reconnaissance publique, deviennent des mannequins semi-anonymes, sans tête, qui rappellent les vitrines, les catalogues de vente par correspondance et les marchés en ligne qui font avancer l'industrie.
