Dans The Domestic Life, les formes s'incarnent différemment à travers la photographie qui capte l'accélération des dégradations et des déformations. A mi-chemin entre un Muybridge ou un Man Ray, il s'agit d'arrêter le temps d'un corps, d'une chose en mouvement, avant qu'il ne s'érode, se déforme, se désagrège ou fonde, et de le soumettre en retour à un arsenal d'aléas propres au procédé photographique. Ce médium, censé être objectif face à la réalité, est rendu malléable et imparfait, grâce à un ensemble de procédés de déformation, de basse résolution, de distorsion et de mouvement, qui introduisent un certain degré d'abstraction et d'imprévisibilité dans l'image. Inès Mélia met en lumière ce qui constitue la narrativité et la plasticité des formes elles-mêmes, qu'elle soumet à différents effets de déformation et de dédoublement pour révéler d'autres états possibles du visible. A cet égard, elle cultive un degré d'imperfection, voire la possibilité d'un ratage, en détournant les codes de la photographie, en abaissant ou en brouillant la résolution de l'image pour l'amener vers les territoires de l'abstraction. Les objets, bien que fortement ancrés dans l'ordinaire du quotidien, sont pour Inès Mélia les vecteurs d'une nouvelle poésie. Elle cherche à réinventer l'acte de création à travers le prisme de l'absurde, du rêve, de l'inconscient, et ainsi convoquer une autre expérience du réel. Inès Mélia joue avec le caractère réconfortant, émotionnel, presque régressif de ces fromages. Les formes rondes et douces de ces mimolettes et fromages de chèvre, mises en scène de manière amusante dans ses images, offrent la possibilité de créer un monde à partir de presque rien.
