Les éditions Contrejour avaient publié en 1988 la première monographie importante de Mario Giacomelli, ce grand maître italien dont les photographies noir et blancs disaient l’essentiel à travers un territoire visuel personnel d’une force inouïe. Aujourd’hui, avec la participation de sa petite fille Katiuscia Biondi, ce nouveau livre avec une proposition visuelle audacieuse propose une relecture faisant apparaitre l’indivisibilité de son œuvre dans laquelle des constances symboliques, graphiques, autobiographiques et sentimentales lient entre elles les images dans une dimension où passé et présent se métamorphosent. L’ouvrage tel un road-movie déroule les photographies en doubles pages dans un flux ininterrompu mixant les diverses séries entre elles, celles connues avec d’autres inédites. Reportages, paysages, portraits ou autoportraits se superposent jusqu’à l’abstraction en faisant apparaitre la vision d’un artiste, d’un poète toujours actuel en relation avec le monde dont la photographie constituait le film d’une vie entière.
