Pour ce seizième titre de la collection Des oiseaux, le grand photographe brésilien s’est plongé dans ses imposantes archives pour en extraire un choix d’images exceptionnelles qui célèbrent un monde exclusivement peuplé d’albatros, d’aigles, de perroquets, de fous de Bassan et autres espèces rares. Depuis plus de trente ans, Sebastião Salgado n’a cessé de photographier, sur terre comme en mer, se rendant dans les contrées les plus reculées, que ce soit en Amazonie, en Asie, en Afrique, jusqu’aux espaces glacés de l’Antarctique. Cet ouvrage, dont plus de la moitié des photographies sont inédites, est une véritable ode à la beauté de notre planète.

Pour accompagner ce corpus visuel, un texte d’Erik Orsenna évoque nos liens étroits avec le monde des oiseaux, tandis qu’un entretien entre Sebastião Salgado et Philippe Séclier, codirecteur de la collection Des oiseaux, témoigne de la relation particulière que le photographe entretient avec le règne animal.
