Le voyage mexicain, livre mythique de Bernard Plossu paru en 1979 est enfin réédité dans sa version originale accompagné de Jungle, un livre inédit de photographies couleurs qu’il réalisa à la même époque lors d’une expédition dans la jungle du Chiapas mexicaine.
L’ensemble ainsi constitué révèle comment un jeune homme d’à peine vingt ans, amateur de cinéma d’auteur et de films grand public met spontanément en place dès ses débuts de photographe une esthétique personnelle sans rien connaitre des photographes importants de son époque. Et dans le même temps, que ce soit sur la route à travers l’approche poétique du Voyage mexicain ou narrative de Jungle, on sent que tout est déjà en place : la conscience de son devenir d’auteur et son approche conceptuelle à travers les livres conçus comme des œuvres à part entière.
