Dans sa série Mail Order, les personnages féminins de l’univers imaginaire de Marianna Rothen sont présentés pour la première fois en compagnie d’hommes. Jusqu’à présent, les hommes sont restés résolument absents des images de Rothen, mais il semble que dans le débat actuel sur la politique de genre, les droits des femmes et le mouvement Me Too, il soit inaliénable de ne pas inclure les hommes dans le tableau (plus large). Alors que depuis un siècle, un Hollywood dominé par les hommes a souvent représenté les femmes comme des objets et des marchandises, dans le livre de Marianna Rothen, les rôles ont finalement changé. Aucun homme dans la vente par correspondance n'est réel, ce sont tous des mannequins. Comme le titre l’indique, elles sont comme des poupées sexuelles, des objets, des partenaires de vente par correspondance. La protagoniste féminine, jouée par Rothen elle-même, crée son homme parfait et le fait s'habiller, poser et exécuter sa virilité de la manière qu'elle exige. En inversant cette dynamique de pouvoir, Rothen montre à quel point les rôles attendus entre les femmes et les hommes et leurs archétypes sont profondément enracinés.
