Jorge Panchoaga est un photographe colombien reconnu pour ses récits visuels qui capturent la richesse culturelle et historique de la Colombie.

Son œuvre témoigne de son attachement à l'identité de son pays et lui a valu une reconnaissance nationale et internationale.

« Kalabongó » offre un aperçu captivant de la richesse culturelle et de l'importance historique d'une communauté afro-américaine réduite en esclavage sur la côte colombienne, qui a joué un rôle crucial dans le traité historique de 1605 avec la Couronne espagnole.

Toutes les images sont nocturnes car, selon l'auteur, « la nuit est complice de la lumière de la liberté ». Elles ont été prises à San Basilio de Palenque, ville jadis emblématique de la lutte pour l'indépendance, et aujourd'hui largement oubliée.
