Composé d'images capturées lors des différents voyages de Peter Funch dans la chaîne des Cascades aux Etats-Unis, le livre est une re-création imparfaite des paysages et de la nature sauvage tels qu'ils sont décrits dans les archives de cartes postales anciennes et de documents éphémères de la région que l'artiste a accumulés au cours de ses voyages.

À l'aide de cartes et d'images satellites pour localiser l'endroit où les images de cartes postales ont été créées, P.Funch recrée les paysages à travers trois expositions distinctes via des filtres rouge, vert et bleu, transposés les uns sur les autres.

À mesure que le temps s'écoule sur les paysages recréés, des éléments et des événements sont révélés ou obscurcis par chaque filtre successif, évoquant ce que P.Funch appelle "notre aveuglement face aux conséquences que nous créons". The Imperfect Atlas met en lumière un dialogue sur l'impact sévère et accéléré de l'homme sur la nature, une archive visuelle solennelle et mystifiante d'une nature sauvage que l'avenir pourrait ne pas voir.
