"Cette monographie est une introduction aux thématiques prisées par le photographe américain Joel Meyerowitz, grâce à ces 55 photographies présentées chronologiquement, qui offrent un regard neuf sur sa carrière.

L'introduction rédigée par Colin Westerbeck traite de la vie et de l'oeuvre de Joel Meyerowitz, en recontextualisant son travail photographique dans l'histoire de la photographie. Né à New York en 1938, Joel Meyerowitz a étudié la peinture et l'anatonmie à l'Université de l'Ohio, avant de retourner travailler à New York comme directeur artistique dans la publicité.

Il s'est ensuite mis à la photographie, à laquelle il s'est consacré pleinement. Photographiant en noir et blanc, il a parcouru les États-Unis pendant 3 mois, à la suite desquels il se vit proposer une bourse photographique sur la thématique du temps libre.

Joel Meyerowitz est un pionner et défenseur de la photographie en couleur, et a participé du passage de l'utilisation de la couleur comme un acte de résistance, à une pratique universelle."
