Un beau fac-similé du récit poétique de Luigi Ghirri sur la culture pop des années 1970.

Le photographe italien Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992) a réalisé Cardboard Landscapes (Paesaggi di cartone) lors de ses voyages à travers l’Europe, inventant le terme « géographie sentimentale » pour décrire son approche artistique unique d’examiner l’ordinaire pour le montrer remarquable. L’album original, réalisé à la main, comporte plus de 100 impressions chromogènes en couleur collées sur les pages d’un livre vierge, et a été offert par Luigi Ghirri à John Szarkowski, alors directeur du département de photographie au Musée d’Art Moderne de New York (MoMA), dans les années 1970.

Œuvre singulière, Cardboard Landscapes est publié pour la première fois. La collection est une anomalie dans l’ensemble de l’œuvre de Luigi Ghirri, car elle priorise la composition complexe plutôt que les tableaux de balayage pour lequel il est le plus connu. Dans cette série d’œuvres, il considère l’image imprimée comme le sujet, encadrant un kaléidoscope de photographies et de publicités pour raconter un récit visuel poétique qui reflète à la fois la culture régionale, personnelle et populaire, révélant une impulsion fascinante pour enquêter sur son rôle au sein de son propre médium.
