The Fun Archaeology s’inscrit dans la tradition du livre d’artiste, il présente la collection protéiforme imaginée par l’artiste français Thomas Mailaender. Depuis plus de dix ans ce dernier a rassemblé des milliers de documents collectés aussi bien aux puces, sur le net, dans des ventes de charité qu’à même la rue. Un large spectre de matériel qui va de la relique de guerre à la photographie pornographique vintage, de l’album de photo de famille au tract politique, de la création amateur à l’épreuve d’artiste signée. En ordonnant et confrontant ces documents Thomas Mailaender propose son archéologie personnelle et visuelle du 20ème siècle. Chacune des images sélectionnées pour la publication est légendée et restituée dans son contexte d’origine dans un index à la fin du livre.
